You've put off cleaning your oven for too long and now you need to take action. You can't see through the glass door and the dish towels hanging on the handle are now used for fanning the smoke alarm to stop it shrieking in your ears.
So what do you do? Use a Professional or Do it yourself.
If you do decide to tackle the carbon abyss yourself there are a couple of options, a few well known oven cleaners available at a reasonable price from your local supermarket, or there are also some handy cleaning hacks on you tube which use a few ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen cupboard. The rest is down to your time and your effort. What you'll invariably find is that these won't get near to cleaning a really dirty oven.
The shop bought solutions generally use very caustic substances which at worst can see you seeking medical attention if you get it on your skin or in your eyes and at best waiting several hours, or even overnight for the solution to work effectively. And, I can always tell an oven that's been cleaned using the shop bought chemicals. They leave a nasty white deposit and it takes the surface off stainless steel facias and plastic knobs.
As for the household cleaning hacks, give it a go, they are a fanciful thought but they won't get the job done without you putting in some serious graft and getting your hands and everything else in the vicinity pretty dirty.
So spending your hard earned cash getting me in to clean your oven may seem a little extravagant but the results will speak for themselves and you'll save on your priceless time and energy. And, don't just take my word for it, see what the braniacs at the Good Housekeeping Institute think.
